Oh, March. How I loathe you so. The warm sunny days, the random snowstorms that don’t even stick to the ground because it was sixty degrees the day before, the “company restructuring” that tends to happen around this time of the year, the hour of lost sleep that seems to stick with us for many more weeks than it should—aside from Tyler’s birthday and the occasional porch sit, we should really just throw the whole month out.

(I don’t mean that. I’m being a little bitch this week because I’m in my luteal phase and also Mercury is Retrograde.)

WEARING

I’ve left the house an unprecedented amount of times over the last few weeks. Pre-sanctified mid-week liturgy, a nice dinner with Tyler, a library date with a friend and our sweet children, a pediatrician appointment, one coffee date (just me and my baby), AND a trip to “the big city” (Charleston, WV) for an arts conference. I think I’m past the point of getting regular fit pics but I did manage to snap this elevator mirror selfie from the arts conference: I wore black Sheertex tights, a black mini skirt from Girlfriend Collective, a high neck top from Abercrombie (the skirt and top together looked like a chic little dress, but were nursing-ready, a must-do these days as my seven month old still refuses to take a bottle), oversized olive green Everlane blazer, and my favorite Chanel flats. I wore my hair up like Brigitte Bardot or Pamela Anderson, and wore some glasses to pull the “scholarly sultry” vibe together. My Artipoppe carrier was, of course, a big part of the look. I find myself planning outfits around it because it is just so chic.

On days when I’m not dressing up, I more or less take a formulaic approach:

  • Jeans or a wrap skirt

  • A tee

  • A sweater, blazer, or jean jacket

  • Some kind of silk scarf to make it look like I did it on purpose

Simple. Unfussy. Some days, it’s all black. Some days are very colorful. The weather absolutely influences the choice. Perhaps next month I’ll have more photos.

LISTENING

I’ve been listening to a lot of music around the house with the baby, trying to enjoy my new “stay at home mom” status without blackpilling about the state of the tech job market right now. It’s been easier than I thought it would be, but my music choices have skill skewed towards the angsty and ethereal. I’m using this time to work on some new music of my own, and I’m being careful to only fill my ears with the tunes that inspire me to make great things.

When you have a baby, you start to worry about things that had never crossed your mind before, such as, “am I frying my baby’s dopamine receptors because we’ve listened to early 2010s progressive hip hop for several hours?" “Am I frying my dopamine receptors because I’ve listened to *early 2010s progressive hip hop* (*insert the genre du jour*) for several hours a day for the last decade or more?” (The answers are probably, “no, not yet,” and “yes, definitely,” respectively.)

I would also be remiss to not mention the fact that my friend Hannah has some new music out. It is very good.

EATING

Warm days are a reminder that summer is just around the corner.
